1.Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Muthanga
Muthanga wildlife sanctuary is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Region. Located 18 kms East of Sultan Bathery.It is on the way from Mysore to Sultan Bathery.Muthanga has a large population of pachyderms,and has been declared a Project Elephant site.
Thus tourist can see herd of elephant roaming here and there.It is home for the rare and endangered species like Tiger, leopards, cheetah ,barking deer,flora and fauna etc. In addition, this is also a reservoir for bewildering variety of birds and butterflies
2. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Tholpetty
Tholpetty wildlife sanctuary is situated along the northern ridge of the district having the border coorg in Karnataka. In terms of flora and fauna, Tholpetty is much similar to Muthanga.It also having some of the rare species and one of the best place to visit.
The best time to visit both the wildlife sanctuaries is from November to May.
